I’m a freelance writer, an essayist and travel writer whose work has been published in Southern Living, The Christian Science Monitor, The Washington Post, Virginia Living, Troika, Richmond Magazine, and others. For more than ten years, I wrote a wide-ranging, personal Home & Garden column for RHome. I wrote Insiders’ Guide to Richmond, published in Sept. 2010, for Globe Pequot Press and Susan Winiecki and I wrote Richmond’s Culinary History: Seeds of Change for The History Press in 2017. I write for children as well and have sold poems to Highlights and Wee Ones. In 2010, a partner and I started Real Richmond Food Tours, offering food tours and some might say, more, to folks lucky enough to spend 2.5 hours in Richmond, VA. In 2014, we rolled out Fire, Flour & Fork, an award-winning food festival that nearly killed me. I left the biz in early 2020 to get back to writing for children.
I grew up in Maryland, outside D.C., and have lived in Massachusetts, Ireland, New Jersey, South Carolina, and for the last 25+ years, Virginia. I swear it sounds more interesting than it was.

Seriously. How can you publish a hot fudge recipe and expect me to go to sleep on time?
Very impressive, this whole thing! And, just so you know: I’ve never read a blog before (okay, Cheryl K and A Ling notwithstanding). I likee. More Please.

Didn’t know until today. I was googling Eliza about her new wrapping paper and found YOU! Congrats on the book. Does Chad know you are writing this? When does it come out? We could run a story about it and what you discovered along the way…..

Nothing pithy or trendy to say.
Just some guy randomly typing in “Richmond, VA” hoping he’s not the only one blogging.
I like your page. It’s open and honest. Plus, the title kicks…

Just had a discussion with Chris about Andy Goldsworthy sculptures tonight and it reminded me to tell him about the pirate ship we saw on the hike yesterday. Of course I became curious to see if the same sculptor we were discussing created the ship so we began googling to see what we could find on the subject. What a surprise to discover your blog in the process.

Do you still have the pattern for the Christmas stocking you have on the blog from 2009? I would love to have a copy of that as I have been trying to find one if if one from a copy.
